The hammers and chisels used in traditional methods can damage surrounding tissues and cause a traumatic recovery process because they shape the bone by breaking it. However, Piezo Surgery used by Dr. Andan Clinic has completely changed this process.

Piezo is a high-technology device that works with ultrasonic sound waves. The tip of this device only cuts and shapes hard tissue (bone); it stops when it contacts soft tissue (vessels, nerves, muscles, mucosa). Thanks to this “tissue-selective” feature:

Open Technique or Closed Technique? Which One is Right for You?

• Open Rhinoplasty: This involves lifting the nasal skin with a small incision made across the columella (the pillar between the nostrils). This method allows the surgeon to clearly see the entire anatomy of the nose (3D dominance). Dr. Andan Clinic generally prefers the open technique, especially for serious deviations, nasal tip revisions, and the use of Piezo surgery. The scar remains at the base of the columella and becomes completely indistinct over time.

• Closed Rhinoplasty: This is the technique where all incisions are made inside the nose, leaving no external scars. It may be preferred for more limited corrections (e.g., just removing a hump). Recovery may be slightly faster, but the surgeon’s field of vision is restricted.

Which technique will be used is decided based on the needs of the patient following a detailed examination, 3D simulation, and photograph analysis performed at Dr. Andan Clinic.

Nasal Tip Aesthetics (Tipplasty) and Revision Rhinoplasty

In some patients, there is no problem with the bone structure (hump); the problem is only at the tip of the nose. The nasal tip may be too wide, low, asymmetrical, or “bulbous.” In this case, Tipplasty (Nasal Tip Aesthetics) is performed, where only the cartilage tissue is intervened without touching the bones. The recovery process is much faster and more comfortable.

On the other hand, Revision Rhinoplasty is applied for patients who have previously had surgery at another center but are not satisfied with the result or whose breathing problem persists. Revision surgery is more technical and difficult than the first surgery; sometimes, cartilage harvesting (grafting) from the ribs or ears may be required.
