General Anesthesia
No matter how much care we give to facial aesthetics, the region that most honestly reveals our age is the neck. The neck skin, which is thinner than facial skin, contains fewer oil glands, and is more exposed to the harmful effects of the sun, begins to show signs of aging much earlier.
The loss of the contour under the chin, the formation of a “double chin,” the prominence of vertical muscle bands (turkey neck), and horizontal lines cause a person to look older and heavier than they actually are. In fact, if the neck is neglected in a patient undergoing a facelift, the resulting incompatibility overshadows the aesthetic success.
At Dr. Andan Clinic, we view Neck Lift operations as an inseparable and complementary part of the facial rejuvenation process. Neck aesthetics is not just about cutting away sagging skin; it is the art of recreating that youthful and sharp (90-degree) angle between the chin and the neck by restructuring the deep tissues, muscles, and fat compartments under the jaw.
Thanks to the modern surgical techniques applied in our clinic, the neck region is smoothed, the jawline becomes razor-sharp, and the person appears to have shed the burden of years when viewed from the profile.
Aging in the neck region has three main components:
Skin Laxity: The loss of skin elasticity and subsequent sagging due to collagen loss.
Fat Accumulation (Double Chin): The collection of fat under the chin (submental area) due to genetics or weight gain.
Platysma Muscle Relaxation: The loosening of the Platysma muscle, which covers our neck like a thin sheet, forming vertical bands over time.
When these three problems combine, the boundary between the neck and the chin disappears, making the face appear elongated downward. The Neck Lift surgery performed at Dr. Andan Clinic is a comprehensive procedure that intervenes in all three problems simultaneously.
Neck lift surgery is generally performed under general anesthesia and includes different techniques based on the patient’s needs:
Liposuction: If the patient’s skin is young and has not lost its elasticity, removing only the fat in the double chin area with Vaser Liposuction may be sufficient. However, at advanced ages, this procedure alone is not enough; a lift is mandatory.
Platysmaplasty (Muscle Repair): Through a small 3-4 cm incision made under the chin, the loosened Platysma muscle is tightened by suturing it in the midline, like a double-breasted jacket (creating a corset effect). This process eliminates the vertical bands in the neck.
Skin Tightening: With incisions extending behind the ear, the excess skin is released, pulled upward and backward, and the surplus is removed.
Dr. Andan Clinic places great importance on hiding scars. Neck lift scars are hidden in the fold behind the ear and within the hair-bearing scalp. The incision under the chin is located in the natural fold line, making it unnoticeable once healed.
Our patients frequently ask, “Is it enough if I just have fat removed (chin liposuction)?” Submental Liposuction only removes fat tissue; it does not recover sagging skin or loosened muscle. If you have sagging skin and only have fat removed, your skin will sag more because it will be emptied, creating a “withered” appearance. Therefore, Dr. Andan Clinic physicians decide whether Liposuction or a Neck Lift is necessary by analyzing skin quality and the degree of sagging. Generally, a combined approach provides the best results for patients over 40.
While neck lift surgery can be performed alone, it is combined with a Facelift in 90% of cases. This is because the face and neck are a whole. Lifting the face while the neck remains sagging, or vice versa, creates an unnatural appearance. In combined surgeries, holistic rejuvenation is achieved across the entire head and neck region (Total Rejuvenation) with a single anesthesia and a single recovery process.
An elegant, long, and smooth neck is a symbol of youth and nobility. You don’t have to hide your neck with scarves or turtlenecks. Dr. Andan Clinic, with its surgical experience and aesthetic vision, erases the traces of time on your neck and sets your jawline free once again.
The scars are hidden in the groove behind the ear and at the hairline, making them invisible when viewed from the outside. The small incision scar under the chin also fades over time. The aesthetic suture techniques used by Dr. Andan Clinic maintain the highest quality of scarring.
It is normal to feel tension in the neck area after surgery, but severe pain is not expected. Patients wear a special neck brace for 1-2 weeks. Bruising and swelling largely subside within 10-14 days.
For mild sagging and double chin issues, methods such as “Double Chin Lipolysis,” “Focused Ultrasound (HIFU),” or “Thread Lift” provide some improvement. However, for patients with significant excess skin (turkey neck), non-surgical methods are ineffective or produce very short-lived results.
Yes, male patients who are bothered by their neck skin protruding from their shirt collar, especially when wearing a tie, often opt for this surgery. Since the beard area and skin structure differ in men, surgical planning is tailored accordingly.
The skin and fat tissue that are removed do not return, and the tightened muscles maintain their shape for many years. Even as you continue to age, your neck will always look much younger than your peers. The results are considered permanent.
