The power of the gaze in facial aesthetics is indisputable. The eyes and eyebrows are the primary focal points where we express our emotions, reflect our energy, and communicate with others. However, the aging process, gravity, and genetic factors lead to undesirable changes in the upper face (periorbital region).
Specifically, the loss of volume and downward sagging of tissues in the temporal region causes the outer part of the eyebrows to droop and leads to accumulation at the corners of the eyes. This situation causes a “tired, sad, and aged” expression to settle on the face, regardless of how young or energetic the person may be.
When we look at the rising aesthetic trends worldwide in recent years (Bella Eyes, Foxy Eyes, Cat Eyes), we see that an upwardly slanted, dynamic, and almond-shaped eye structure has moved to the center of the perception of beauty.
Dr. Andan Clinic performs the Temporal Lift operation not only as a rejuvenation surgery that erases signs of aging but also as a “beautification” procedure that grants the face a more attractive, sophisticated, and exotic form. In cases where medical aesthetic methods (thread lifts, Botox) are insufficient or a permanent solution is sought, surgical temporal lifting is the most effective method.
A Temporal Lift, as the name suggests, is the process of surgically moving the tissues in the temporal region of the face upward and outward. The greatest advantage of this operation is that it is performed with endoscopic techniques or minimal incisions hidden within the scalp.
The stages of the procedure performed at Dr. Andan Clinic are as follows:
Incision Planning: It is essential in aesthetic surgery that scars are not visible. For this reason, the incision is hidden approximately 2–3 cm inside the scalp in the temporal region. No scar is visible from the outside or when the hair is tied up.
Tissue Release: Deep tissues under the skin and the fascia layer are released. This stage is critical for the result to be permanent. While only stretching the skin provides temporary results, moving the deep tissue ensures lasting youth.
Suspension and Fixation: The outer 1/3 of the eyebrow (the tail) and the outer corner of the eye (canthus) are brought to their planned new positions. The tissues are pulled upward and slightly sideways and suspended with strong sutures to the bone membrane or deep fascia.
Closure: If there is excess skin, it is removed millimetrically and closed with aesthetic sutures.
The operation is usually performed under sedation-supported local anesthesia or general anesthesia and takes an average of 45–60 minutes. The patient can be discharged on the same day.
Unlike other facelift operations, temporal lift surgery appeals to a very wide age range. Patients applying to Dr. Andan Clinic generally fall into two main groups:
Young Patients (Ages 20–35): In this group, there are usually no significant signs of aging. The goal is an “image” change. These are individuals who have a flat or downward-slanting eyebrow structure and want to give their eyes a more slanted and “almond” form (Bella Eyes). In these patients, a more exotic gaze is aimed for using minimally invasive techniques.
Middle-Aged and Older Patients (Ages 40+): In this group, the main problem is aging. Due to the thinning in the temporal region, the tail of the eyebrow has dropped, there is accumulation on the eyelids, and crow’s feet have deepened. The goal is to erase the tired expression and move the face anatomically back to its original position.
Important Distinction: Temporal Lift should not be confused with a Brow Lift. While a Brow Lift raises the entire forehead and the whole eyebrow, a Temporal Lift targets only the outer part of the eyebrow and the corner of the eye. The middle of the forehead is not touched.
Among facelift surgeries, the Temporal Lift has one of the fastest and most comfortable recovery processes.
Edema and Bruising: Since the procedure is performed within the scalp, the swelling on the face is minimal. There may be slight bruising around the eyes, but it passes quickly within 3–5 days.
Pain: For the first few days, there may be a slight feeling of tension or pressure in the temporal region, especially when performing chewing movements. This is easily controlled with simple painkillers.
Social Life: Bandages are usually removed the next day. Our patients can return to their work or social lives from the 3rd day by covering the stitch line with their hair.
Stitches: Stitches are usually removed on the 7th to 10th day, or self-dissolving sutures are used.
Our patients frequently ask, “What is the difference between this and almond eye aesthetics with threads (French Lift)?”
Thread Lift: This is a temporary method. The capacity of threads to hold the tissue is limited, and as they dissolve (average 1–1.5 years), the eyebrows return to their former state. There may be a risk of rippling in the skin.
Surgical Temporal Lift: This is a permanent and definitive solution. Since tissues are fixed to the deep plane with sutures and excess skin is removed, its effect lasts for years (7–10 years and above). it saves you from recurring thread expenses and provides a more natural result.
A Temporal Lift is a “magical” touch that instantly changes the expression of the face, adding energy, youth, and attractiveness to the gaze. To bring out the sparkle in your eyes, to get rid of the sad expression caused by low eyebrows, or to achieve an aesthetic form in line with trends, Dr. Andan Clinic is by your side with its safe surgical techniques and personalized aesthetic planning. Remember, an impressive look is worth a thousand words.
No. Immediately after the operation, the tissues resist gravity and due to oedema, the eyes may appear slightly more slanted than planned (hypercorrection). This is a temporary process deliberately performed by the surgeon. Within 2-3 weeks, as the tissues settle into place, the eyes will achieve their ideal, natural and attractive almond shape.
The surgeons at Dr. Andan Clinic use special angled incision techniques that do not damage the hair follicles. As the incision line remains within the scalp and the hair follicles are preserved, no localised baldness occurs. Once healing is complete, the scar is completely hidden among the hair.
Absolutely. A temporal lift is most commonly combined with blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery). While a temporal lift raises the eyebrows, eyelid surgery removes excess skin. This dual combination provides total periorbital rejuvenation around the eyes.
Temporal lift is a surgical procedure and its results are very long-lasting. Although the ageing process continues, your eyebrows and the corners of your eyes will never droop to the same extent as they did before the operation. They generally maintain their shape for 7-10 years.
No, this surgery does not involve the eyeball, optic nerves or eye muscles; it only works on the superficial skin and fascia tissue. It does not harm vision in any way. On the contrary, if drooping eyebrows are obscuring the field of vision, the angle of vision will widen after surgery.
