A flat, firm, and fit abdomen is at the center of aesthetic body perception. However, the pregnancy process, extreme weight fluctuations, or aging can lead to deformations in the abdominal area that are difficult to reverse. The root of the problems women complain about most—such as “No matter how many sit-ups I do, my belly doesn’t go away” or “My skin has become wrinkled”—lies not just in fat accumulation, but in anatomical disruptions.
Dr. Andan Clinic performs Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) as a comprehensive restoration process that repairs the abdominal area in three layers: Skin, Fat, and Muscle.
In addition to eliminating sagging skin and stretch marks, a tummy tuck provides tightening and thinning from the inside out by repairing the abdominal muscles that separated during pregnancy (Rectus Diastasis). The result is a perfectly flat abdomen and a revealed waist indentation.
During pregnancy, the growing uterus pushes the vertical muscles in the front abdominal wall (Rectus Abdominis) to the right and left, separating them. After birth, these muscles cannot return to their original positions in every woman. When the gap between the muscles remains open, internal organs bulge outward. This condition is called Rectus Diastasis (Abdominal Muscle Separation).
If you have diastasis in your abdomen, no matter how much you diet, that “pregnancy belly” look will not go away. The most important stage of tummy tuck surgery is the surgical stitching of these separated muscles back to the midline (Plication). Dr. Andan Clinic surgeons effectively sew an “internal corset,” flattening the abdominal wall and narrowing the waist.
Different techniques are applied depending on the degree of the patient’s deformation:
Full Abdominoplasty: Applied to patients with sagging, stretch marks, and muscle separation both above and below the belly button. The position of the belly button is relocated. Sagging skin and fat tissue are completely removed. The scar is a line extending from one hip bone to the other (longer than a C-section scar) and is hidden within underwear.
Mini Abdominoplasty: Applied to patients with only slight sagging and fat accumulation below the belly button. The belly button is not touched. The incision is shorter, and recovery is faster.
Which method is suitable for you is determined by analyzing your skin quality and muscle structure during a detailed examination at Dr. Andan Clinic. Generally, Liposuction of the waist and back areas is added to Tummy Tuck surgeries (Lipoabdominoplasty) to increase the aesthetic quality of the result.
The most feared issue in tummy tuck surgery is the scarring. While this surgery is not scarless, Dr. Andan Clinic plans the incision line so low at the “Bikini Line” (underwear line) level that the scar is not visible even in the lowest-waist clothing or bikinis. Furthermore, the newly created belly button is designed as an aesthetic and natural depression; round stitch marks that make it obvious surgery was performed are not left behind.
Abdominoplasty is not just an aesthetic improvement; it is also a functional gain that improves postural disorders and back pain by supporting the abdominal and back muscles. Trust the expertise of Dr. Andan Clinic to get rid of stretch marks and sagging, and to be able to wear a bikini freely.
There is no medical reason preventing pregnancy. However, a new pregnancy may cause the stretched abdominal muscles to relax again and the skin to sag. Therefore, it is recommended that the surgery be performed after plans to have children have been completed.
As the cracked skin below the navel is completely cut away and removed, the cracks in this area disappear completely. The cracks above the navel, however, are pulled downwards as the skin is stretched and become less visible, but may not disappear entirely.
Due to the abdominal muscles being sutured, there will be a feeling of tightness and limited movement for the first 3-4 days. To avoid straining the stitches, the patient is advised to walk in a slightly forward-leaning position (V position) for the first week. After one week, they can resume standing upright. Any pain is controlled with medication.
The operation lasts 2-3 hours, and you will stay in hospital for 1-2 nights. Drains are removed within 2-3 days. Returning to social life takes 10-14 days. Wearing a corset is mandatory for 4-6 weeks. You can start strenuous sports (such as sit-ups) after 3 months.
Yes. During a tummy tuck, the sagging skin is removed, and the old caesarean scar is also removed along with this tissue. The new scar is longer than the caesarean scar but much finer and more aesthetically pleasing.
