Liposuction

A healthy lifestyle, balanced diet, and regular exercise are the fundamental keys to a fit body. However, human biology can sometimes be unfair. Our genetic heritage, gender, hormonal structure, and life cycles (puberty, pregnancy, menopause) can cause fat cells to accumulate in “stubborn depots” in specific areas of the body.

No matter how much you diet, those “love handles” around the waist, the width of the hips, the fullness in the jowl area, or the thickness in the arms may not melt away. This is exactly where Liposuction (Fat Removal) comes into play—at the point where the limits of diet and exercise end.

Liposuction and Body Contouring: Farewell to Stubborn Fat, Hello to Curvy Lines

At Dr. Andan Clinic, we view the Liposuction procedure not as a “slimming” or “weight loss” tool, but as the art of Body Contouring—sculpting the body like a sculptor to achieve its ideal proportions. Today, with technological revolutions, Liposuction has moved far beyond the classic “fat vacuuming” process.

Thanks to the Vaser (Ultrasonic) and Laser technologies applied in our clinic, fat is no longer just removed; simultaneously, the skin is tightened, and muscle lines are defined (High Definition) to create an athletic silhouette.

Is Liposuction a Treatment for Obesity?

The most common misconception about Liposuction is that it is performed to treat obesity. Liposuction is not done to dramatically lower the number on the scale; it is done to correct the image in the mirror.

  • Weight Loss: This is the shrinking of fat cells in terms of volume (achieved through diet and exercise).

  • Liposuction: This is the permanent reduction in the number of fat cells.

The ideal Liposuction candidate is someone with a Body Mass Index (BMI) below 30, who is satisfied with their overall weight but complains about regional excesses. For example, a woman with a thin waist but wide hips, or a fit man whose abdominal muscles are not visible due to fat accumulation in the belly, are perfect candidates for this procedure. The physicians at Dr. Andan Clinic perform a body analysis to honestly state whether you will receive maximum benefit from this procedure and to manage your expectations.

Vaser Liposuction Technology: Respect for Tissue, High Impact

In old-fashioned liposuction methods, mechanical force was used to break apart fat, which could damage surrounding tissues. However, at Dr. Andan Clinic, the gold standard Vaser (Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance) technology is preferred.

The revolutionary differences of Vaser Liposuction compared to classic methods are:

  • Selectivity (Selective Technology): The Vaser device targets only fat cells by emitting ultrasonic sound waves and breaks them down by “liquefying” them (emulsification). It does not damage the vessels, nerves, and connective tissue around the fat tissue. This ensures that post-operative bruising, pain, and bleeding are at minimum levels.

  • Tightening (Ironing Effect): It is crucial that the skin over the void left after fat removal does not sag. The heat energy emitted by Vaser stimulates the sub-dermal layer, triggering collagen production and ensuring the skin adheres to the muscle tissue “like a corset.”

  • High Definition (Hi-Def) Sculpting: Vaser technology is so precise that by working on superficial fat tissue, the shadowing of abdominal muscles (Six-pack / Two-pack) can be achieved. This results in a more athletic and muscular appearance.

360-Degree Liposuction and Combined Procedures

The body is a three-dimensional structure; removing fat only from the front of the abdomen does not yield an aesthetic result and may look artificial. Dr. Andan Clinic adopts the “360-Degree Liposuction” approach. In this approach, the abdomen, waist sides, back area (under-bra folds), and the small of the back are treated as a whole. The waist circumference is thinned all around to create a perfect hourglass form.

Furthermore, since fat cells harvested with Vaser technology maintain their vitality, they are not “thrown away.” If the patient needs it, these high-quality fats can be injected into the buttocks to create a BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift) effect or used as a facial filler. This is the most natural “recycling” process performed with the body’s own tissue.

Recovery Process and Corset Use

The Liposuction procedure is performed under general anesthesia and takes 1–3 hours depending on the number of areas to be treated. The patient is usually discharged on the same day or the next morning. The success of the recovery process depends 50% on the surgeon and 50% on the patient’s care. The most critical rule is the use of a corset.

  • It is mandatory to wear a special medical corset for 3–4 weeks to prevent the voids in the treated areas from filling with edema and to help the skin adapt to its new form.

  • For the first 3–4 days, there may be mild aching pain (similar to post-workout muscle soreness), which subsides with simple painkillers.

  • Patients can usually return to work within 3–5 days.

  • It may take 3 to 6 months for the edema to fully subside and for the body to take its final shape.

Liposuction is a definitive and permanent victory won against stubborn fat. For your clothes to fit perfectly, for you to walk with confidence on the beach, and for your bodily comfort, Dr. Andan Clinic is by your side with its advanced technology and experienced staff. Achieving the contours of your dreams may be much easier than you think.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

If I gain weight again after liposuction, will the fat return?

The number of fat cells in an adult is fixed and does not increase after puberty. With liposuction, this number is permanently reduced in that area. If you gain excessive weight, the remaining fat cells in your body may increase in volume; however, there will not be disproportionate fat accumulation (e.g., only in the buttocks) in the treated area as before. Weight gain is distributed more evenly throughout the body.

Liposuction targets deep fat tissue. Cellulite, however, is a problem close to the skin surface caused by poor circulation and connective tissue compression. Vaser Liposuction can reduce the appearance of cellulite with its skin tightening effect, but it does not guarantee complete elimination of cellulite. Additional treatments such as mesotherapy or radiofrequency may be required for cellulite.

Patient safety (fluid-electrolyte balance and haemoglobin level) takes precedence over aesthetic concerns. The safe limit according to global standards is generally 4-5 litres (approximately 8-10% of body weight). If more fat needs to be removed, the procedure can be divided into two sessions to avoid putting the patient at risk.

This is one of the biggest concerns. If your skin elasticity is good and Vaser technology is used, there will be no sagging; on the contrary, tightening will occur. However, in patients who have had multiple births, have stretch marks and whose skin has sagged like an apron, liposuction alone is not sufficient; in this case, it must be combined with a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) operation.

Liposuction incisions are only as large as the cannulas can enter, i.e. 3-4 mm in size. These tiny incisions are made in hidden areas such as the bikini line and inside the navel. Once healed, they leave a pinpoint, barely noticeable scar that fades over time, blending with the skin tone.
